LYDNEY Community Centre and the town's sea cadets hosted a fun-packed afternoon on Saturday with a fete at the centre in Naas Lane.
Activities ranged from a bouncy castle to traditional favourites such as the coconut shy and demonstrations by members of the sea cadets' TS Royal Forest unit.
The centre is based in the old Lydney School and the fete also marked the 100th anniversary of the building.
Two years ago the centre was under threat because of council cutbacks but the efforts of centre members, led by Len Cooksley and Carol Tiley, rescued it for the community.
There are now more groups based at the centre and the fete also gave the opportunity to see what they do.
The fete was opened by the Mayor of Lydney, Cllr Bill Osborne who praised the work of the volunteers who run the centre.
Music was provided by the Lydney Training Band and many of the 35 young members of the sea cadets were on hand to assist and show off their skills in first aid and seamanship.
