SHEEP. Love them or hate them, we've certainly missed them ... but do we want them back?

The reality is that is will be impossible to stop them, but, of course, that does not mean local people cannot have a say on whether or not they believe the

tradition should

be continued.

The letters pages of the Review have carried a mixed bag of views.

We believe there is overwhelming support for the sheep – though many people want strings attached. However, there is a view that the tradition of free-roaming sheep has run its course ... that sheep belong in fields and that's where they should stay.

In an attempt to settle the issue once and for all we want a huge postbag. We ask you simply to vote FOR or AGAINST the sheep.

A FOR vote should silence the critics for good; an AGAINST vote will really put the cat among the pigeons.

At this stage we have decided not to ask for a 'strings attached' vote. That can follow when it has been established whether or not Review readers accept the free-roaming right should continue.

Have your say by cutting out the voting form printed in this week's issue and sending it to The Review, The Tindle Suite, Kings Buildings, Hill Street, Lydney, Glos GL15 5HE. You can Fax it if you like: 01594 842386. Or email us on [email protected]">[email protected] stating either:

YES - we support the return of the sheep

NO - the sheep belong in fields

We appreciate this will not settle the issue, but we hope a substantial response will establish for now and for years to come the depth of feeling one way or the other in a debate which has raged for many years.
