YOUR article last week regarding uncertainty of funding for the college relocation included comments by Councillors Hogan and Molyneux to the effect that Mark Harper should ensure funds are forthcoming for the Cinderford Northern Quarter.

The council has forged ahead with this project without first securing crucial funding, particularly in regard to the bid for £2.13 million for ground preparation to make the site ‘investment ready,’ and now the council is acting as if it has the absolute right to receive more public funds, even though there are many other demands on funding and not enough to go round.

The council is quite rightly being criticised for heavily investing in a project that it may not be able to deliver, despite sucking up all available public funds.

Until private investment in the scheme is guaranteed there is no certainty of employment-generating development so it would be timely to publish a list of companies committed to moving onto the area to justify the bid for funding.
