I would like to add my support to Steve and Carol Dodson and the other residents whose livelihoods and quality of life is threatened by the planned solar farm at Purlieu.

I do not intend to repeat the well-made arguments against the application in terms of visual impact and water run-off. My concern is the implications for road safety. This site presents a significant distraction to motorists using the A48. This section at Purlieu is notoriously dangerous. Three people have recently lost their lives in this vicinity.Undoubtedly, drivers will have their attention drawn to a development of this magnitude in an otherwise rural area.

There is also potential for reflection from the panels to cause a glare. A momentary distraction could have fatal consequences.

There is, in addition, the issue of construction work, should permission be granted. The prospect of huge HGVs trying to get onto and off the site down a narrow lane is not one to relish.

However, what does London-based AEE Renewables care? They will make a killing at the taxpayers' expense and then move on to find another site to make even more money. We will be left to pick up the pieces, possibly literally.
