THE DAUGHTER of an elderly woman who fell into bushes near the Chepstow Port Wall says she cannot thank enough the people who rescued her.
Kaylee May and Catriona Davies, who work in Specsavers in High Street, were heading towards School Hill when they heard a faint cry coming from the bushes.
Mrs Pauline Murphy, who is 83-years-old and has dementia, slipped on dog dirt and could not get back up.
Kaylee said: "It was dark and as we were walking past the bushes at the top of Riverview we heard a faint sound."
Catriona had to leave and Kaylee was given help by two local men to get Mrs Murphy back to her home.
Mrs Murphy's daughter, Toni, said: "My mum suffers from dementia and was going into town late one afternoon and slipped on dog dirt on the grass beside the Port Wall.
"She was unable to get off the grass and the two girls heard a faint cry as they walked up the pathway from the main road to River View.
"They know of my mother because I am a customer at Specsavers."
"They found her on the grass and it looked like she had been there for over an hour.
"Unfortunately the trees were blocking her from the main road for any passers-by to see her.
"Her clothes were covered due to the slip but they very kindly walked her back and saw her safely into her house where her carers took over.
"I'd like to say a huge thank you to the girls - what they did was very kind and thoughtful."
Kaylee also thanked the two men who helped her: "I'm very grateful to them, without their help I couldn't have managed."
Toni has organised many events for the Chepstow Alzheimer's support group and the next is event is a table-top sale on Saturday, February 18 at the Palmer Community Centre in Cormeilles Square, Chepstow. For more information contact Toni on 624120.
She has also been nominated by her employers, Acorn Recruitment in Newport, for an "Extra Mile" award from Newport Council for her fund-raising efforts.
