LIVES are being put at risk by speeding vehicles in Cinderford's main road.

Mrs Samantha Jones, of High Street, says she in convinced there will be a serious accident unless urgent action is taken to slow down cars, especially at night.

"The speed of some of them is unreal. There is an urgent need for road calming methods such as humps to be introduced and at the very least there should be an around-the-clock speed check by the police before it is too late," she said.

Mrs Jones became a victim last week when a car ploughed through a boundary wall and ended up against her house.

"If anyone had been walking by it could easily have been a much more serious incident," said Mrs Jones.

"I was sat in the bath when the crash happened. The house shook from top to bottom – it was really very frightening," she said.

Mrs Jones is now planning a petition and would like Cinderford Town Council to become involved.

She believes the pinch-point road restriction in Lower High Street is not always a deterrent to speeding traffic.

"Some drivers try to beat it and oncoming vehicles. I have seen cars travelling as fast as 60mph, they treat it a bit like a race track. My fear is that the next time it will not just be a wall," she said.
