SEEDS have been planted to replace the several mature trees which were lost during a fire at Thornwell School two years ago.
Members of the school council, Bailey Jones and Tegan Shepphard rolled their sleeves up and planted 105 small sapling tree seeds alongside members of the Chepstow and District Rotary Club.
The seeds were donated from the Woodland Trust as part of its annual offer to schools and community groups throughout the country – as well as all Rotary Clubs.
They include silver birch, rowan, and wild cherry.
The arrival of the seeds was warmly welcomed as the school begin to replace the several trees which lost not only in the fire but sacrificed during the building of their new school.
To add to the school's wildlife garden, it hoped that the trees will form a woodland glade and a further outdoor learning area.
Marian Lewis, president of Chepstow Rotary Club, said: "This is an excellent initiative taken by the school. Trees don't only make the place look nice, but they are vital to the air we breathe, and we should plant as many as possible."
