LYDNEY Hospital Fete raised more than a whopping £12,000 on Saturday.

The ever-popular event attracted people in their droves to enjoy an afternoon of music, children’s activities and refreshments.

Kicking off the show was Pillowell Silver Band followed by Friends Uke-nited and cheerleaders the Severnbank Cygnets.

The Forest Oak Dog Training Club also attended. The Severn and Lydney Flower Club held their annual competition which included two children’s classes.

Chairman of the Friends of Lydney and District Hospital, Tony Midgley introduced the new hospital matron Mrs Cheryl Haswell.

He said: “I welcome Cheryl and thank everybody for their generosity in providing the money to help with the extra facilities needed for the welfare of the patients, staff and hospital services.

“Without you, we certainly could not achieve any of these benefits.”

The money raised will enable the Friends to buy a state-of-the-art x-ray facility.

One of the Friends, Marie Fraser Griffiths added: “Among those we are grateful to are the Coventry Building Society, Bream Flour Mill and Lydney Amateur Dramatic Society as well as the Forest of Dean Lions Club who presented cheques at the fete. “We also appreciate the hard work of those people and businesses who gave donations, raffle prizes, produce and plants, as well as their time. They undoubtedly help to make our annual fete so successful.”
