MONMOUTH MP David Davies has been formally readopted as the area's Conservative Party parliamentary candidate.

The decision was made by a secret ballot of Monmouth Conservative Association's executive committee with all members present unanimously voting in favour of Mr Davies returning to fight the 2015 general election.

The 42 year-old, who was not challenged for the position, has been the constituency MP for Monmouth since 2005. He lives in the town with his wife Aliz and their three children.

Speaking at the reselection meeting, Mr Davies said: "I think it is very important for Members of Parliament to remember that their prime role is to be a representative of their area to the government and not the other way around.

"That is why I have always held regular advice surgeries and made taking up issues on behalf of constituents my top priority.

"In Parliament, I was honoured to become the first ever Conservative chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee and I have been pleased to lead numerous reports on topics such as the Severn Crossing toll and support for Armed Forces veterans in Wales.

"It has also been interesting to serve on the Council of Europe and to remind the judges in Strasbourg of the anger many feel over human rights decisions, which have enabled terrorists and other criminals to avoid being deported.

"I am very grateful to all those who have placed their trust in me to fight this seat at the next election. I am not in any way complacent about the result and will continue to work as hard as I can."

Chairman of Monmouth Conservative Association, Barrie O'Keefe, added: "David has served the Monmouth constituency with great distinction over the past 14 years, both as an MP and as the former Welsh Assembly Member.

"He is hard working, approachable and fearless in representing the views of his constituents in Parliament, as opposed to representing the views of Parliament in the constituency.

"We believe he is the perfect constituency MP and a great advocate for the local area."
