IT was a case of hot wheels, as Coleford’s Carnival of Transport celebrated its latest outing on the warmest Easter Monday on record.

Hundreds of local motoring enthusiasts arrived early to show off their pride and joy at the event which is now in its 22nd year.

The oldest exhibit was the ‘Comet’ carriage owned by Adrian Lander, which dates back 130 years to 1889 and ran between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye.

Other exhibits included steam traction engines, vintage tractors, motorbikes and cars dating back to the 1920s.

There were a number of British classics including an early Lea Francis, the iconic Mini and a number of post-WWII American muscle cars.

John Palmer, one of the organising committee members said: “A lot of vehicle owners seem to arrive at the same time, causing a bit of a traffic jam in the centre of town at 9am.

“But by the time visitors to the event, all these issues had been resolved.

“We seem to have had a good attendance this year. The sun has brought people to Coleford in their droves,” he added.

“We don’t assess numbers, but it is definitely busier than last year’s rain-affected event.”
