A LYDNEY woman has warned of a potential ’crash for cash’ scam that she has been unwittingly involved in.
The woman, who doesn’t wish to be named, was driving up Bream Road when the car in front of her suddenly stopped causing her to bump into the back of it.
It’s claimed the driver of the car complained of whiplash – despite being hit at no more than 15mph.
The resident said: "I was crawling up the road anyway as there was a lot of traffic around when all of a sudden the car in front of me stopped for no obvious reason. This caused me to hit into the back of their car.
"The damage is minor and police weren’t called but the driver wanted my insurance details to make a claim for whiplash.
"It took me by complete surprise as it was a minor bump. I want to stress to fellow motorists that there are people who will deliberately ’cause’ an accident in order to make an injury claim. It’s worth keeping extra distance behind those driving in front especially when the stopping distance time is reduced."
A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police said: "We don’t believe that a crime of this nature is a particular issue in this county, however we would encourage anyone who may come across suspicious activity to call 101, or if a crime is in progress 999."
