A LYDNEY skittles team has snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after only 28 attempts.

The Hill Street Blues, named after the street in which they play, formed last year in time to join the Forest of Dean Men’s Skittle League last October.

Club secretary David Porter told the Review: “The winter league didn’t go well. In fact it went so badly that we lost every game. We were undeterred though and signed up for the summer league anyway.”

The team’s losing streak held firm and it wasn’t until last Friday that their determination paid off and they finally tasted success.

David said: “It was our eighth game of the season and we played a Soudley team at the White Horse pub in the village. They have two teams -– an A team and a B team. I think we were probably playing the B team.”

Hill Street Blues’ next league game is at home to fellow league members Team Trevor.
