Parkend II 210-7 (40 overs), Lydney III 211-5 (27.5 overs)

HARRY Williams was denied a century in a high-scoring match at Parkend as his Lydney III team claimed victory.

Opener Williams was on 93 when he was caught by Anthony Ball off the bowling of Will Brookes as Lydney cha- sed a target of 211.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, but found the going tough early on.

Jim Crawley went for four, bowled by Williams and the Lydney man was in the action when the second Parkend opener, Roger Price, was dismis- sed.

Williams caught Price off the bowling of Adam Slee with the batsman on seven.

It didn’t get any easier for Parkend when Paul Franklin was bowled for a duck by Williams.

Tim Martin steadied things with 34 before he was eventually caught by Marcello Slee off Paul Kiely.

Kiely had Will Brookes caught and bowled for three – but there was steel towards the end of the Parkend batting order.

Skipper Jon Deave was top scorer with an undefeated 44 and number eight Anthony Ball added 32, caught by Williams off Warren Betty.

Dave Morris was on 24 when the Parkend innings closed.

The bulk of Lydney’s runs came from the openers with Adam Slee adding 73 to Williams’ 93 before he was caught by Dave Morris off the bowling of Jack Meadows.

Warren Betty and Toby Theobold were both sna- red by Anthony Ball, with Betty scoring 12 and wicketkeeper Theobold adding three.

Number four Marcello Slee – who had earlier picked up a wicket – was bowled by Tim Martin for 19.

John Matthews and Paul Kiely were at the crease when the target was reached for a five-wicket win.
