DRIVERS in the opening round of races in the Gloucester and District Autograss Club's 50th anniversary year had to contend with extremely difficult conditions.

The rain had turned the track at Elton Corner into a mudbath and many drivers had to think twice about racing.

Club secretary Wendy Gardener said: "The mud caused some car problems. The conditions were very poor."

The club currently has 45 members who compete in 10 different classes with drivers able to start at 12 years of age. The categories are the same for men, women and junior drivers.

Among the younger drivers is Jamie Henschker who is in his first season and drives a Mini.
