THERE was an exciting climax to the Forest of Dean fours with three teams still in contention going into the final round.

The sixth and final round was held at Lightmoor and Steam Mills Lake with nine teams taking part.

Organiser Glyn Sherwood said: "We changed the rules slightly so there were more teams in contention.

"Going into the final round there were still three teams who could have taken it."

It was a good competition for Glyn personally as he was part of the winning team, he won the Wye Angling Cup knockout and was runner-up in the individual competition.

The league was won by the Wye Angling team made up of Glyn Sherwood, Dennis Sherwood, Craig Brown and Steve Thomas.

Just two points separated them and Iffers Ringers – Mark Wellington, Darren Saunders, Greg Roberts and Andy Reid.

Third was Iffers Gold made up of Andy Prosser, Iffer Meek, Bob Williams and Alan Simmons.

The overall individual winner was Andy Prosser with Glyn Sherwood runner-up while the Wye Angling knockout was won by Glyn Sherwood with Mark Wellington in second.

Top rods on the day at Lightmoor were Greg Roberts (43lbs 8oz), Glyn Sherwood (43lbs 2oz) and Mark Annis (33lbs 9oz).

The best performances at Steam Mills were Matt Grindle (4lb 10 oz), Dennis Sherwood (4lb 8oz) and Richard Harding (3lb 9oz).

Mr Sherwood said: "We're grateful to Wye Angling of Ross for sponsoring the competition and we're hoping more teams will take part next year."
