LYDNEY parkrun celebrated its 100th run with a duck theme and cake on Saturday (November 18).

The event, launched in 2016, saw 159 runners turn up to take part in the weekly 5K run around Lydney Boating Lake.

Spokesperson and parkrun organiser David Price said; “To help with our celebrations many parkrunners turned up wearing duck fancy dress, as Lydney Lake is home to so many ducks that we have adopted the bird as our mascot.

“No parkrun celebration is complete without cake, and we were treated this week to a fantastic ‘100’ cake, made by one of our parkrun family, as well as some cupcakes. All were very well-received.

“We were also joined by the Lydney 0-5K and Chepstow 0-5K graduates, who had just completed a nine-week course to take them from not running at all to being able to complete a 5K run, so big congratulations to all those runners who not only completed their course but also came and ran 5K with us.”

Over the coming weeks, Lydney parkrun will be celebrating Christmas on December 24 with a Christmas fancy dress run and Forest of Dean parkrun will be hosting a Christmas Day parkrun at 10am.

On New Year’s Day, there is the chance to take part in two parkruns with Lydney’s starting at 8:30am followed by the Forest of Dean parkrun at 10am.

“Last New Year’s Day we had 159 runners at Lydney with the majority making the journey up to the Forest to run

there as well,” David added.  “Then on January 6 we celebrate our second anniversary, where I am sure there will be more cake.”
