THREE late goals gave Ross their opening win of the season – and handed Newent their first defeat.
It was an important confidence boost for the visitors who had struggled with a tough set of opening fixtures.
Newent went into the game in third place in Severn Division Two and the two sides were evenly matched.
The deadlock was broken with about 20 minutes left when Nerys Russell laid on the ball for her twin, Bronwyn, to score.
Vice-captain Laura Samuel doubled Ross’s advantage from a short corner and the victory was sealed by their player-of-the-match Sophie, a recent recruit to the club.
Captain Kim Calland said: “We’ve had to play the top sides in the division early in the season so we needed a confidence boost.
“We’ve been training well and it all came together on the pitch.”
It was a good weekend for the club with both men’s sides and the Badgers youth team also winning, making a clean sweep.
