Wadworth’s 6X Gloucester Two
Bream 50-26 Broad Plain
---------
BREAM ran in seven tries with a fantastic team effort for a win that sent them into third place in Gloucester Two.
Leading the way was Rhys Evans with a hat-trick of tries, six conversions and a penalty, with Nicky Butler crossing the whitewash twice and one try each for Pete Saran and Hugh Gibbs.
The home side took the game to Broad Plain from the off with a well-worked line-out creating the opportunity that saw Pete Saran open the scoring with Evans adding the conversion.
Evans added a penalty soon after and with the Bristol side’s pack being pushed back at will, Bream had plenty of possession.
Marc Bibby, in for Liam Brady, got the ball moving from the back of the scrum which created problems for the visitors.
There were tries for Evans and skipper Hugh Gibbs which were both converted before Broad Plain narrowed the gap with a penalty try.
The penalty try was accompanied by a yellow card for Zac Hancock, a decision which had both sets of supporters scratching their heads.
Bream went up a gear and their movement around the park saw Evans add another couple of tries to his haul which he converted to give Beam a commanding 38-7 lead at
half-time.
The visitors started the second half in determined mood and were soon rewarded with a converted try.
Bream hit back quickly with good work from the forwards and accurate place kicking setting up Nicky Butler for his first of the season but on this occasion the extra points went begging.
Butler then grabbed his second which was converted by Evans and with the game effectively over as a contest, Bream did let up somewhat, allowing Broad Plain to score two converted tries.
Runaway leaders Ross did their near neighbours a favour by beating Smiths Rugby 14-23.
With four games left, Bream are 17 points behind Smiths, giving them a mathematical, if very slim, possibility of overhauling the Cheltenham side.
