CINDERFORD under-14s triumphed in the County Cup finals at Hartpury against Old Richians beating them 37-12.

The route to the final was a hard one for the team as reigning champions Bredon Star were in the same pool. However, the Cinderford boys put in some excellent performances, only conceding one try in all three pool games.

Cinderford then came across some very strong teams in the quarter and semi-finals including Cleve and Clifton.

The finals against the Gloucester-based Old Richians saw three tries in the first half for Cinderford with no reply from Old Richians leaving the half time score at 15-0. Old Richians started the second half looking to fight back but Cinderford scored again after about three minutes putting the score at 20-0.

There was then a nervy 10 minutes where Cinderford seemed to lose their shape and Old Richians took advantage of the situation and scored two tries in quick succession, converting one of them to leave the score at 20-12.

To make matters worse Cinderford then had a yellow card for a high tackle. With Old Richians in the ascendancy and Cinderford down to 14 men this could easily be the turning point of the game.

However, the Cinderford lads woke up again and scored three more tries, converting one of them.

Tries were scored by Robbie Winman, Matty Jones, Will Ruck and Jamie Morris. Conversions by Zac Littlefair.
