NEWLY-reformed Newnham United have made a strong start to life in the bottom tier after missing last season.
The win against Lydney means the team has won two of its first three games and currently stands second in the table.
Assistant manager and local businessman Steve Grindle presented the team with new shirts ahead of Saturday’s game.
The shirts feature a tribute to former striker Gaerwyn Richards who died tragically young and in his honour the number 10 shirt has been ‘retired’.
In poor conditions the home side found themselves a score behind but a hat-trick from Keiran Fabiani, two from Chris Asserati and an own goal secured the points.
Jacob English scored both Lydney goals.
It is the second time in a fortnight that Newnham have scored seven.
Mr Grindle said: Everyone has put in a lot of effort and we had a good crowd turn out to watch the match.
Newnham are second to Sedbury who beat Littledean 10-1.
