TWELVE gymnasts helped their club take two golds and a silver in a major team competition.

The youngsters from Wye Gymnastics Club in Caldicot turned on the class at the Hawth Gymnastics TeamGym Friendly micro team Level 5/6 event. in Crawley, against clubs from London and across the South.

TeamGym is an exciting discipline where gymnasts perform on tumble, trampette and vault, competing in teams with their peers.

Wye Gymnastics were competing for the first time outside Wales and although the gymnasts were all nervous they did not disappoint on the podium.

The mini team of Dylan Smallcombe, Kelsey Howells, Lois Child and Ruby Jarvis performed top end skills in their category and shone in a large field of teams to take the gold medal overall.

Next to compete were the youth team of Bethan Peacock, Carys Dolbel, Erin Brady and Eva Meddins, who were the youngest in a big category, as 10-year-olds competing in the 10-14 age category.

The age difference did not matter to the girls however, as they performed exceptionally well, displaying their upgraded skills to take another gold medal.

Last to perform were the Junior Team, where Dylan Duffield, Ellie Postans, Izzie Harris and Heather Dent looked fantastic on the track, but just missed out on first place by half a point, after a couple of errors.

Coach Carly Hawke said: “Our gymnasts performed very well. To take podium positions in all categories is fantastic but the fact that this was their first competition competing against clubs from England makes it even more exceptional. I could not be any prouder of all of them.”
