A NEW boxing club was officially opened by an MP who himself is no stranger to the ring.

The new St Joseph’s Caldicot Boxing club was opened by Monmouth MP David Davies, who has had a number of bouts and is known as the Tory Tornado.

The new facility, which is based at Sudbrook Club and will be known as Bertie’s Boxing Club, is the dream of Martin Lewis who says the community rallied around to make it a reality.

He said: “The support has been fantastic and we’re looking forward to developing the gym.”

Mr Davies said: “Boxing promotes discipline and self-respect and I’m very pleased to be able to support it.”
