MOTHER and son Catherine Roberts and Alex Lindfield led home a record number of Forest athletes in a ‘home’ half marathon on Sunday. 

Catherine was the first female member of the 54 Forest of Dean Athletic Club athletes to finish the Forest Spring Half Marathon. 

Her time of 1hr 37mins 14sec was enough to earn her second place in the F45 category. 

Alex’s time of 1hr 18mins 36sec earned him fifth place overall and fourth in the men’s senior class, placing him in the top one per cent for his age group. 

The overall winner of the women’s

race was Katherine Matthews of Chepstow Harriers, who finished in 1hr 24mins 34sec while the first man home for the club was Stephen Caldwell in 1hr 25mins 45sec. 

Gavin Jones was the first finisher for Monross Trailblazers in 1hr 26min 41sec and fastest female for the club was Vanessa Ball in 1hr 47mins 10sec. 

George Smith recorded a time of  1hr 32mins 53sec to finish first among the Spirit of Monmouth runners while Spirit’s Emma Smith finished in 1hr 57min 41sec. 

Caldicot Running Club’s David Jones finished with a time of 1hr 39mins 47sec. 

Alex Lindfield, Steven Richards and John Hamilton took second spot in the team event with a combined time of 4hr 7mins 9sec. 

Richards clocked 1hr 23mins 35sec to claim sixth spot out of 423 runners in the MV40 class while John Hamilton’s 1hr 23mins 58secs earned him 25th  overall. 

The race, which started at the Speech House, is organised by the Rotary Club of the Forest of Dean with 2,253 runners taking part. 

The overall men’s winner was  Chris Macmillan of  Weston in  1hr 14mins 39sec.
