YORKLEY FC ran its third Dennis Kear memorial cup match on Saturday, with a veterans side taking on Yorkley’s past and present team.

Mark Hudson, chair of the club, said: “We’ve held this match every year since we sadly lost our greatly missed president. Dennis was involved with Yorkley football club for over 60 years.

“Dean Morgan gets veterans together to play a present Yorkley side with any family, friends and past players joining in. We do a bit of fundraising and this year we raised £330, which will go to the Alzheimer’s Research UK at the wishes of Dennis’s family.

“All at Yorkley FC send their best wishes to the Kear family. Dennis will always be remembered with respect by us as he was a great man who had great knowledge if you took the time to talk to him. He was very well respected by so many. He can never be replaced and will never be forgotten.”

The score was 5-2 to three times winners Yorkley FC, Tom Fraser and Lewis Edwards with two goals each and Dan Phillips with one for Yorkley, while a Troy Morgan penalty and a home goal for the veterans. Captain Danny Hudson picked up the memorial cup.

Mark added: “Thanks to all players who turned up, to Dean Bunner Morgan for organising his side, and Dan Hudson for managing Yorkley. Once again thanks to Myra at the Nags Head for her neverending support.”
