Whitehouse Press North Gloucestershire League Division Two
Mitcheldean Reserves 4-0 Longhope
-----------
THREE goals inside the first half hour kept Division Two leaders Mitcheldean Reserves in top spot and unbeaten.
Martin Scrivens, who co-manages Mitcheldean with Rob Brown, reckons it could have been more if it was not for some outstanding work by Longhope keeper Sam Hurst.
The home-side’s man-of-the-match, Joe Gasston, opened the scoring after running from inside his own half and converting a pass by Steve Clark.
By the 15-minute mark, the advantage had been doubled thanks to a 25-yard effort by Dave Tookey.
Clarke added the third and Jack Fowler concluded the scoring.
Martin said: “We were very good in the first half but it was a bit scrappier in the second.
“We could have scored more but for Sam Hurst in the Longhope goal who did very well.”
It’s now nine out of nine in the league for Mitcheldean who are six points ahead of Newent Town who won 0-5 at Lydbrook Athletic A.
Martin said: “There is still a long way to go and there are a lot of points to be won and lost and we certainly won’t be resting on our laurels.”
