Lydney Town 1-6 Hereford

-------

NEW signing Mason Lewis scored for Lydney Town in a prestigious friendly with Hereford which marked the opening of the club’s second stand.

A record crowd welcomed the teams out onto The Rec with Lydney being led by mascot Danny Jones.

Lydney featured four new signings with Chris Addis, Gary Wildin and Tom Maxted alongside Mason Lewis.

Last season’s beaten FA Vase finalists included several trialists and were two goals to the good by the interval, the first from Rory Huntbatch who pounced on the rebound after Richie Thomas had kept out a short-range attempt.

Jamal Lawrence doubled the advantage on 35 minutes but Lydney kept to the task and held their own early into the second half.

Hereford manager Peter Beadle made a number of changes to increase the threat and John Mills made it three within a couple of minutes of coming on.

Lewis got onto the scoresheet with a delightful goal which started in his own half and saw him beat two defenders before chipping the on-coming keeper.

In the last 20 minutes Mills completed his hat-trick and the other Hereford goal came from Ross Staley whose speculative cross bounced in front of Rich Thomas and ended up in the back of the net.

The game was the second of the week for Lydney who had welcomed Monmouth the previous Tuesday.

The game ended 3-3 with Lydney’s goals coming from James Morse, Declan Morley-Lyne and Liam Sheppard.

Lydney have a home draw in the FA Cup extra preliminary round on Saturday, August 6 while Bristol Manor Farm are the next visitors to The Rec on Saturday, July 30 in a friendly.
