A TEEN golfer who took up the sport aged just three is celebrating his first major victory, after heading the field at the 2010 Ryder Cup venue.

Ollie Moss, 14, from Wyesham in Monmouth, drove, chipped and putted his way to the Celtic Manor Junior Championship, with his grandad Geoff Moss proudly caddying for him.

And such is the Wyedean School pupil’s driving ambition, he’s hoping it’s the launchpad to one day obtain a golf scholarship in America.

The teenager, who learnt to play at the St Pierre club in Chepstow, said: “The day couldn’t have gone any better. I played really well and it meant a lot to win, as it’s my first major trophy.”

Grandad Geoff, who organises the junior section at Celtic Manor, where Ollie now plays, has taken him to all his practice sessions, professional lessons and matches since he was a little lad.

Geoff said: “I knew when Ollie was just four years old that he had talent, but I was very nervous caddying as it was such a big match for him.”

Ollie has a handicap of 10, plays for the Celtic Manor under–18 team and the Gwent Golf Union junior team.

And mum Hannah Davies said: “We are so proud of Ollie. He has worked so hard and I’m sure he will continue to do so.”
