THE Battle of Waterloo was reputedly ‘won on the playing fields of Eton College’ – and a teen footballer showed plenty of fighting spirit when he attended regional trials there.

Seb Lawson, from St Owen’s Cross near Ross-on-Wye won selection for the Independent Schools Football Association’s (ISFA) South Under-16s representative squad with an impressive display at one of the world’s most prestigious schools.

And the 15-year-old Monmouth School for Boys pupil will now feature against Essex Schools at Chigwell on Sunday, October 15.

Seb has taken big strides in his football career recently, winning selection for Newport County U15s Academy last season and enjoying a successful tour to the Czech Republic.

The attacker was also part of his school’s U15s team which went unbeaten last season and finished third in the National Schools Football Performance League for independent schools.

“I am extremely proud of Seb’s footballing progress,” said school football master Mark Tamplin.

“If Seb continues to work hard and puts in a performance of which he is capable, I am sure that he will remain on course for a place in the full ISFA national squad.”
