THREE Forest girls have been selected for England south west girl's rugby squads.

Maizie Morgan, 16, has been selected in the under 18s team while Shauna Bennett, 13, and 12-year-old Jenna Skidmore have been selected for the under 15s team.

The girls played for Gloucestershire county squads and were put forward to trial for the south west squads. The trials, which were held in Somerset, saw the girls compete against other girls from across the south west including Cornwall, Dorset and Wiltshire to gain selection in the 30 girl under 15 and under 18 south west squads.

The girls attended two weekend intensive training camps in Dorset and played in two of the three scheduled games so far.

In the first game versus the north of England, the south west under 15s won 17-0 and the south west under 18s won 42-7. The second games versus the Midlands saw the south west under 15s win 28-5 and the under 18s win 43-7.

The final game is at the end of April against London and the south east at Birmingham Exiles RFC.

Girl's section manager at Drybrook RFC, Mandy Meredith said: "All three girls have played the first two games so far and were a credit to themselves and their clubs. This is a fantastic achievement for the girls and for girl's rugby in the Forest."

Maizie (scrum half) and Shauna (centre/outside half), play for Drybrook RFC and Jenna (second row/no 8) plays for Berry Hill RFC.

Mandy added: "Both clubs are very proud of these extremely talented young rugby players and their brilliant England success."
