YOUNG gymnasts were among the medals at a major championship at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

Five members of Kestrel Gynmastics in Bulwark were crowned national champions at the Welsh Women’s Artistic Gymnastics For All and Novice Agility Championships, while more than 20 secured medals and ribbons

Club coach Shirley Lazere-Bennett said: “It was a great weekend’s competition for Kestrel’s gymnasts. It was a good experience for those gymnasts who were competing in the first Welsh WAGFA Championships, on all four pieces of apparatus – vault, A-bars, beam and floor on the first day, and the Novice Agility on the second day.” 

The eight-year-old team competing in Level 2 took overall team gold, with Imogen Mae Page winning gold on vault, bars and floor and silver on beam to be crowned overall individual champion.

Ingrid Zina took bronze on vault, fifth place ribbon on bars, fourth on beam and silver on floor to take overall bronze, while Daisy Brandon took fifth place ribbon on vault, fourth on bars, fifth on floor to place fourth overall ribbon.

In Level 4 Novice Agility, Kestrel’s nine to 10-year-old team were crowned champions, with Hollie Smith in individual gold, Ava Lou Morris in bronze, Faye Webb in fourth place ribbon, and Eva Lawn in fifth place ribbon. 

In Level 4 eight years, Laci Watkins took gold, and in the boys’ section Brereton Trim was champion and Robin Kedward took silver, landing team gold with Laci. 

The eight-year-old Level 2 team of Ingrid Zina, Carys Fullerton, Phoebe Morris, Kacey King and Imogen Mae Page landed silver.

In the Level 3, 11 to 12 years section, Jasmine Fellows, Imogen Powell and Amber Morgan pulled together to win team gold, and Amber was also awarded sixth place ribbon. 

There was also team gold for Kestrel in the 13 and over Level 4 section.

Lily Edwards landed the individual overall title, Willow Summers took silver, Martha Linden was fourth place ribbon, and Shannyn Hoare finished with fifth place ribbon.
