CHEPSTOW Harriers’ Kath Matthews was the first woman home in the Severn Bridge half marathon which was run on Sunday.

More than 2,000 runners took part in the third running of the event including local clubs such as the Harriers, Caldicot Running Club, the Forest of Dean Athletics Club (FoDAC) and Spirit of Monmouth.

Kath finished in 1hr 24min 50sec while the first man to finish was Phil Matthews of Swan­sea Harriers in 1hr 14min 42sec.

Cherry Fowler in 1hr 42min 30sec, Sherryl Hall in 1hr 42min 30sec and Melinda Ruck in 1hr 43min 00sec were the third team home.

The Forest club had 34 runners in the race and their first man to finish was Andrew Kaye in 1hr 36min 43sec.

The first man to cross the line from Chepstow Harriers was Stephen Caldwell in 1hr 28min 00sec.

Allan Meek was the first Spirit of Monmouth runner to finish in 1hr 30min 17sec and the first woman from the club was Sally Gilson in 2hr 1min 40sec.

Richard Lund led the way for Caldicot Running Club in 1hr 28min 15sec and the first club first woman was Katy Luff in 1hr 52min 6sec.
