BLAKENEY had a dream introduction to life in the division one of the Whitehouse Press North Gloucestershire League.

After the first game the new boys – promoted as runners-up of division two – are sitting proudly at the top of the table following a 6-2 hammering of Lydney Town.

Last season's division two champions, English Bicknor Reserves, had a more difficult time going down 3-1 at Ellwood Reserves whose win put them in third place in the table.

Currently in second place are Newent Town Reserves who earned the spot with a 1-4 victory away at Worrall Hill-based Puma FC.

The other games in the division ended as draws with Yorkley picking up a point away to Mushet and Coalway United in a 2-2 tie while Whitecroft Reserves' game with Ruardean Hill Rangers Reserves finished 3-3.
