NEWLY-promoted Lydney Ladies III were narrowly defeated by the seconds in a fast and furious opening game of the season.

It also created a little bit of club history because it is the first time the sides have been in the same league.

The seconds came out fast and furious with Lydia Matthews getting onto the score sheet within 35 seconds of the start of the game.

The thirds held firm in their new, slightly more defensive formation and kept the seconds out for the rest of the first half.

The team mounted a number of their own attacks with one near miss that could have kept the them level at half time.

The second half saw plenty of chances for both sides with the seconds hitting the post and then scrambling in a second from Judas Lack.

The thirds battled throughout and pulled one back with Lauryn Collins converting a neat but unorthodox set piece from a short corner.

Almost drawing level right at the death the thirds fought to the bitter end, but the seconds ran out winners of a hard-fought game.
