MORE than 60 plucky Wyedean runners braved atrocious conditions to take part in the Admiral City of Newport half-marathon.

Fastest in the 13.1 mile race was Martyn Winser from Chepstow Harriers, which had 28 runners in action, placing 16th overall out of the 1,931 finishers in 1.19.22, and just ahead of a trio of Forest of Dean Athletic Club (FoDAC), Cory Sherwin, Lee Kibble and Andy Raynor.

Quickest runner from the Five Acres-based club, which entered 13 runners in the event, was Cory Sherwin who was 19th in 1.19.44, with Lee Kibble exactly a minute behind in 18th and Andy Raynor just one second and one place back.

Spirit of Monmouth Running Club had 12 runners in action, with Rob Nicholls in 37th overall in 1.22.48, and Allan Meek 71st and fifth fastest Vet 50 in 1.27.04, just 33 secs and one category place up on Harriers’ Jonatahn Carter 75th overall.

Spirit of Monmouth’s Emma King was 14th fastest senior woman in 1.40.01, with clubmates Lucy MacDonald 20th best senior woman in 1.41.27 and Claire Jackson ninth best woman’s Vet 40 in 1.43.23.

Team mate Sue Dryburgh was 13th in the Vet 60 women’s class in 2.48.46.

FoDAC’s Richard Pegler was 105nd and 27th in the Vet 40 class in 1.30.04, with Andrew Kaye 140th overall and 11th in the Vet 50 class in 1.32.45.

Caldicot Running Club also had nine runners, with former Eggheads TV quiz star CJ de Mooi first home in 134th overall and 36th Vet 40 in 1.32.30.

FoDAC’s Cherry Fowler was fastest Wyedean female and 11th fastest woman, placing 159th overall and fourth in her Vet 40 class in 1.33.57.

Chepstow Harriers’ Paul Murrin placed 28th, and sixth in the Vet 40 class, in 1.21.28 while Lisa

Jeffrey was first female Harrier finishing 10th in the Vet 40 category in 1.43.43 with her clubmate Kim

Cawardine finishing in 1.48.17.

Harriers’ Laurie Carter was third fastest men’s Vet 60 in 1.37.36, with clubmate Sue Ashton sixth in the women’s Vet 60 field in 2.23.05, and Syd Wheeler the same in the Vet 70 men’s event in 3.00.17.

FoDAC’s other finishers were Patrick Rennison (1.47.53), Kate Burke (1.51.49), Jo Edwards (1.58.23), Jane Creed (2.00.10), Vanessa Pegler (2.02.20) and Claire and Roger Morgan (both 2.19.48).

Chepstow’s runners were Jamie Goddard (1.33.06), Mark Batten (1.43.07), Tom Riddington (1.44.22), Andrew Oliver (1.49.40), Richard Hipkiss (1.50.41), Don Webber (1.51.11), Kirsten Suttill (1.54.37), Gerard Ashton (1.57.36), Pam Suter (2.00.43), Brett Regulski (2.01.26), Rachel Plowman (2.01.56), Bridget davies (2.02.28), Michelle Taylor (2.08.15), Shari Finch (2.19.31), Helen Clancy (2.20.13), Amanda Ramshaw (2.22.46), Anne Jenner (2.23.03), Lisa Riddington (2.31.07), Sharron Burridge (2.53.31) and Helen Dymond (3.00.42).

Spirit’s were David Mather (1.40.27), Martin Blakebrough (1.41.21), Luke Felton (1.41.44), Richard Rawlings (1.46.51), Marina Wright (1.51.07), Andy Hills (2.04.52) and Ruth McCarroll (2.35.33).

Caldicot’s were Nathan Reeks (1.39.33), David Wherry (1.39.34), Damian Waite (1.40.53), Richard Beach (1.41.08), Emma Tracey (1.49.02), Tom Beale (2.02.18), Emma Spuffard (2.02.52) and Ceri Denning (2.37.52).

Phil Tilley of Monmouth Tri Club finished in 1.41.04 and Natalie Dawson of Rock up and Run Monmouth came home in 2.48.42.
