CHEPSTOW'S second XI fell 93 runs short in a high-scoring match with Penarth.
An unbeaten score of 101 from visiting skipper Peter Docherty – who retired on reaching his ton - helped his side to a mammoth 307-4 which was always going to be difficult to overhaul.
Eight bowlers were used by Chepstow captain Huw Rogers with spinner Jeremy Stead (3-53) the only man to offer much of a cutting edge.
In reply Stead fell early on and despite a superb 80 from Paul Bennett, the target always looked out of reach. Opener Ian Scott (25), James Bostock (26) and Mitchell Harris (26 not out) all made contributions as Chepstow finished on 214-8.
Over at Mill Lane, an unbeaten 60 from Rob Simmonds wasn't enough to stop Sudbrook losing by four wickets to Welsh Asians.
Batting first, the home side scored 210-9 from their 50 overs but the visitors chased it down for the loss of six wickets with 10 overs to spare.
