------

GEORGIA Carpenter hit a hat-trick as Lydney Hockey Club’s 3rd XI overcame muddy conditions to sweep aside visitors Bristol and West Jaspers 3rds.

She quickly made her mark putting Lydney 2-0 up, before the opponents managed to get past stand-in goalie Rebecca Phelps, who impressed between the posts.

Lydney led 2-1 at the break, but took complete control in the second half as Georgia hammered home her third, followed by two strikes from right wing Ella Curtis to make it 5-1.

The hosts were then awarded a short corner and Jane Box smashed it into the left hand corner of the goal to secure a superb 6-1 win.

Lydney HC’s 1st XI switched their home fixture to an away match with Yeovil and Sherborne in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Premier Division as their pitch resembled a swimming pool.

The visitors started strongly, but the hosts scored the first goal with their only real attack of the first half.

That fired Lydney up and Amy Biddle’s reverse stick strike made it 1-1 at the break.

Team-mate Jo Lewis scored her first goal of the season to finish off a brilliant passing move in the second half to make it 2-1, before a short corner and some Biddle sister magic saw Amy Biddle fire her second goal for a 3-1 lead.

Yeovil and Sherborne made it 3-2 in the last seconds, but it was too little, too late as Lydney held on for a hard-fought win

In torrential rain, Lydney 2nd XI battled hard against a youthful Bristol University side across the Severn in their Berkeley League Division 1 clash.

With no subs on hans every player put in a valiant effort until the very end of the game, when an unlucky goal made the final score 3-0 to the hosts.
