AROUND 50 riders took part in the Offa’s Dyke Riding Club’s summer show on Sunday (July 14).

There were competitive and non-competitive events in a day of riding skills at the Speech House.

They included show-jumping, dressage, clear jumping and combined training.

Clear jumping starts with very low fences and, unlike show-jumping, is not competitive.

Combined training brings together show-jumping and dressage to allow riders to hone their skills in those disciplines.

Offa’s Dyke Riding Club spokeswoman Jane Scott said: “The summer show is our main event and it was a very good day.

“We had around 50 riders attending and we are very grateful to our sponsors and the Riding for the Disabled Association for their assistance with marshalling the event on the day itself.”

The club was established in 1987, but was relaunched two years ago to try and reverse a decline in numbers.

Jane said: “The club is successful now and we’ve come a long way in two years, as is shown by the numbers taking part in the show here today.”

The Offa’s Dyke club’s next show is being held on Sunday, August 18.
