ATTRACTING a shoal of fish to feed around your bait is one thing...but to keep them there for three or four hours is not so easy!

However Lydney angler Adrian Davis achieved the feat in a competition at the town's Boating Lake on Sunday. A hectic morning followed, and at the final whistle he weighed in a remarkable all bream catch totally 84lbs 4oz.

"It was a real achievement and top marks to Adrian for doing so well," said Lydney Angling Club committee man Paul Grindle.

Sunday's match was a return fixture in the annual contest between the Lydney and Forest of Dean clubs. Lydney's team total was an impressive 192lbs 2oz. The Forest team totalled 68lbs 8oz.

"It would have been a much closer call if Adrian had not connected with the bream shoal. He caught so many they had to be weighed in two lots," said Paul.

Second place went to Lydney junior member Matt Grindle. Aged 13, and already making a name for himself as a match angler, he weighed in 24lbs 3oz.

Lydney vice-president John Annis included some good carp in a bag weighing 23lbs 5oz to take third place.

Forest AC's Mike Shields stopped a clean sweep by the home club as he took fourth place with a decent catch of 16lbs 4oz.
