FOR all manner of reasons both clubs had to call off their reserve team games to enable full squads to contest this derby. Grabbing the initiative midway through the second-half Viney chalked up a comfortable if unspectacular win.

To date it has been an uncomfortable season for both clubs. Defections to other teams has severely tested the strength in depth at Viney and left club president Alec Thomas to reflect on the way things were.

"I'm afraid to say there is very little loyalty these days. Last year our Reserves had a great season and won four cups so you would have thought we would have had a really strong team this season. But a lot of players have left to play at a lower level. I can't say I understand it," he said.

Viney, once at the hub of Forest football, are a shadow of their former selves though boasting among the best facilities.

Hit by injuries and unavailabilites they had to call in a handful of players from the Reserves – and that meant calling off the second team match.

"I understand Soudley were in the same situation. Some of our players have drifted off to play with North Gloucester League division 4 teams. It doesn't really make a lot of sense," said Alec.

All square at 1 - 1 at half-time, Viney put the squeeze on in the second-half.

Another goal persuaded Soudley to make changes and gave the advantage to Viney who went on to score two more and claim their third win of the season.

Viney scorers were Kurtis Locke, Josh Warren, Jordan Warren and Tom Vincent.
