LYDNEY girls’ side, the Vixens, went down to only their second defeat of the season to a Gloucester side that included several county players.

The Vixens side is made up of girls aged between 11 and 16 and feeds into the senior sides at Lydney Hockey Club.

Several of then have come through the club’s academy which introduces boys and girls as young as six to the sport.

Amy Biddle, who plays for the firsts at Lydney, is the coach of the Vixens. There is also a team for boys called the Badgers.

Sunday’s game against East Gloucester in the Vixen Circle was always going to be difficult for the home side but they battled for the entire game with Holly Thomas getting the consolation goal for Lydney.

The Vixens’ next game is a Forest derby against Newent, and Lydney will be hoping for a repeat of the last meeting between the two sides which they won 5-1.
