WHITECROFT nurse an ambition to play Senior League football again. It may be too late to challenge this season but, come September, watch out!

The desire to climb the football ladder is based on the commitment of manager and longterm Whitecroft player Kevin Robinson. He has a strong belief the 15 man squad now at his disposal is good enough to play at a higher level.

However, ever a realist, he accepts that the challenge of climbing out of the NGL Premier Division is far from easy. "There are a lot of good teams all with the same ambition. To win this league you need to build real consistency and that is my aim," he says.

"If you can string together four or five good results it can make a huge difference. The weather has disrupted the season so results are all over the place. Our win on Saturday has lifted us from third from bottom to inside the top half of the table, that's how close things are."

Robinson believes his squad is now ready.

"We have built from the back and established a strong defence. The goals have been evenly spread but the top scorer at the moment is Brad Kear who has come up through the reserve team and shown really good form," says Kevin.

He described Broadwell as a notoriously difficult team to beat and was pleased his side proved good enough to restrict them to only one real chance. "We have always struggled against them but this time they only had one clear opportunity and ?that was a one-on-one with our keeper Liam Saunders who kept his concentration and a clean sheet," he said.

In a game of few chances the winning goal did not come until the 85th minute and was scored by sub Moses Thompson.

"Mo has come through the Reserves and played for the final 10 minutes. I thought we deserved our victory and I'm sure that with a little consistency we can at least achieve a top five finish," said Kevin.
